Most people need a notary once or twice in their lives, usually at an inconvenient moment. A parent needs a power of attorney signed. A property deed has to be recorded this week. A child is travelling abroad and the consent form needs a seal.
May travels to wherever the signers already are. She confirms each signer is who they say they are, watches the signature, applies her seal, and records the act in her California notary journal. The whole appointment usually takes fifteen minutes.
Bring valid photo identification and leave the document unsigned until she arrives - a notary must witness the signature itself, so a document signed in advance has to be signed again.
